Scaling and Root Planning

Scaling and root planing is a deep cleaning procedure used to treat gum disease. It goes beyond a regular cleaning by removing plaque and tartar from below the gumline and smoothing the roots of the teeth. This helps the gums reattach to the teeth and reduces inflammation. The goal is to stop the progression of gum disease and protect the bone and tissue that support your teeth. It’s usually done in sections of the mouth and may require local anesthesia for your comfort.
